MINNEAPOLIS, January 25, 2012 – Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high-quality online degree programs for working adults, announced today that faculty member Janet Salmons, PhD, is the editor of a new book, Case Studies in Online Interview Research, published by Sage Publications.
The book provides an analytic E-interview Research Framework developed by Dr. Salmons, followed by 10 examples of scholarly research studies that used online interview data. Each case is followed by her commentary, as well as commentary from a peer contributor. Dr. Salmons also provides a metasynthesis of all cases in the final chapter. The book can be used as a stand-alone text, or as a companion to her first solo book, Online Interviews in Real Time.
"People are using interactive, online technologies to communicate in everyday life, so it's not surprising that researchers also want to use these technologies in their work," said Dr. Salmons. "But there's little information out there on this type of research design and conduct. The first book provides a theoretical foundation and discussions on best practices in online research, while Case Studies in Online Interview Research is designed to provide multidisciplinary examples, promote dialogue, and offer guidelines for those who design or review research studies using this emergent method."
Dr. Salmons is a core faculty member in Capella's School of Business and Technology, where she has taught graduate courses since 1999. As of Sept. 30, 2011, more than 35,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella, with nearly 80 percent enrolled in Capella’s doctoral degree programs and master’s degree programs.
