MINNEAPOLIS, May 10, 2012 – Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has been re-designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE/IAE) by the National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The new designation spans the academic years 2012-2017. Capella currently holds CAE/IAE designation for the academic years 2007-2012. As of March 31, 2012, more than 37,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella. The learning and career outcomes of Capella's students and alumni can be found at www.capellaresults.org.
Capella is one of only a few National Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education that offers fully online information assurance and security programs.
According to the National Security Agency, the goal of the CAE/IAE program is to reduce vulnerability in our national information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in information assurance and producing a growing number of professionals with information assurance expertise in various disciplines. Graduates of the program often develop into cyber experts who help to protect national-security information systems, commercial networks, and critical information infrastructure in both the private and public sectors—meeting the increasingly urgent needs of the U.S. government, industry, and academia.
"The CAE/IAE designation is the gold standard for information assurance and security in higher education," said Bill Reed, dean of Capella's School of Business and Technology. To receive the CAE/IAE designation, Capella demonstrated that it met stringent criteria in its commitment to academic excellence in information assurance education. National Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education are expected to serve as national role models.
