July 19, 2011

Participants are eligible to receive a $10,000 scholarship to Capella, or the opportunity to make a $10,000 donation to the approved non-profit of their choice

MINNEAPOLIS, July 19, 2011 – Capella University (http://www.capella.edu), an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has announced that it will award $90,000 in scholarships and / or charitable contributions through its new Inspire Action project.

The program builds on last year's successful Public Service Challenge, inviting individuals to create inspiring videos showcasing the extraordinary ways they are making a difference every day. Participants compete for the chance to earn a $10,000 scholarship or the opportunity to make a $10,000 charitable donation to the approved organization of their choice. Inspire Action will reward civic-minded individuals who are committed to giving back in the areas of public service, education or community. To be eligible, participants must submit a brief video to Capella's Inspire Action YouTube page (www.capella.edu/InspireAction), and votes from the general public will determine the finalists.  Nine winners will be selected by a committee made up of a broad representation of leaders throughout Capella.

"The students who come to Capella are purpose-driven individuals looking to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others by continuing their education and giving back," said Capella University Interim President Deborah Bushway. "The Inspire Action program supports the socially responsible actions of those who not only want to achieve academic and career success, but also want to make a difference in the world."

As of March 31, 2011, nearly 40,000 students are pursuing an online degree at Capella, with 31 percent enrolled in Capella's doctoral degree programs, and 47 percent enrolled in Capella's master's degree programs.
